Great Blue Heron

Great blue herons can be found all over the United States.  Most often they are seen by fresh or salt water, catching small fish and other water creatures.  When hunting, these birds are very slow and still – until it’s time to strike.

How To Identify Great Blue Heron

✓ Dark feathers on the top of the head
✓ Yellow/orange bill
✓ Long legs and neck
✓ Slate/grey body feathers
✓ Neck, head, and wing plumes on mature adults
